Last time we visited it was in high summer. There are only a couple of air conditioned spaces on that ship, and we didn’t want to leave. It made me think of those sailors who served on her back in the day when there was NO a/c . That must have been awful.
I’m digging that Skywarrior. I’m not sure that blue paint is SOP, though. The Navy version of that aircraft, the A3D, didn’t have ejection seats (the Air Force version did). The three-man Navy crews joked that A3D stood for “all three dead.”

A TBF, a TBD, an SBD, *&* a Skywarrior. Neato.
The only carrier I’ve been on is the Yorktown, IIRC.

back in the day when there was NO a/c.
On the plus side, I imagine being under way made for a pretty good breeze in the hanger deck and topside.

Nice! I live just across the bridge in Portland. Had a summer job at the “Mess Deck” restaurant on the ship. The areas not on the tour can get creepy when setting up a catering gig at night.

About how my experience with the USS Alabama Battleship was a couple years ago in Mobile Bay. Those turrets baking in the July heat and 90%+ humidity. It was pretty much the South Pacific. A very interactive experience.

I’ve done the Yorktown as well with my parents! I need to see the other two Essex-Class carriers!
